Classic Can I get the Gulper Mount if I haven't completed Maldraxxus?

I've been killing NPC's for like 2 hours now in search of 'A very large mushroom' in order to get the Gulper mount. I got bored of Maldraxxus and enjoy Ardenweald much more, but am wondering if its even possible for me to get this mount while not actually being able to quest in Ardenweald.
